Reminder of Bank Rules

Bank rules can be a minefield. With so many changes it can be difficult to keep track of what your obligations are.

SecureTrading have therefore put a short summary together of the things that may affect you.

Do you take recurring payments? If so, please note that recurring payments on Maestro cards are not allowed.

During your transaction process do you capture the CVV2 (also known as security code i.e. the last 3 digits on the back of most cards)? If not, you should. In November 2009, the capture and sending of the CVV2 was made mandatory on all ecommerce card transactions except recurring transactions. This also includes MailOrder/TelephoneOrder (MOTO). You can still accept MOTO without a CVV2 but you may incur additional charges from your bank. Please note you are not allowed to store the CVV2 code, but you should capture it and send it as part of the transaction.

3-D Secure or Internet Authentication is also mandatory on Maestro and International Maestro cards. Although it isn’t mandatory on all Visa cards and Mastercards, ecommerce transactions processed without authentication may incur additional charges from the Acquirer.

If you need further information on any of the above, please contact your Acquirer or if you are not sure if your account is set up correctly, you can contact our Support Team here.
