From 1st October 2009 CVV2/CSC (security code) will be made mandatory on all Visa cards.
What is CVV2/ CSC?
All credit and debit cards carry a security code number. This number is known to the bank and printed on the card, but is not stored or printed anywhere else. Therefore, it can be used as a confirmation that the person using the card to make a purchase is in physical possession of the card, or has at least seen the card at some time. Although it doesn’t shift liability from you the merchant, it does help in the task of spotting fraudulent transactions.
The good news?
You may already be set up for this. SecureTrading supports the real time validation of card security code numbers as part of our standard service to merchants. If you are unsure and would like to check this please contact our Support Team on 01248 672 050 or via email support@securetrading.com.
